Wendy's Names Ed Choe As Evp Restaurant Services

- 14 June, 2006 -

Wendy's International, Inc. (NYSE:WEN) today announced that Ed Choe has been named as Executive Vice President of Restaurant Services, effective immediately. Choe, who had been serving as senior vice president of Wendy's northeast region with 1,100 Company and franchise restaurants, will be responsible for leading several key corporate and field departments that support and directly impact store operations. This new position will report to Dave Near, Wendy's chief operations officer, as will the Company domestic and international senior vice presidents of operations. It is Near's first organizational move since being named the Company's top operator in late April. Creation of the Restaurant Services Department will enhance the coordination and level of assistance provided to Wendy's restaurants by placing all of the support functions under the same individual. Importantly, it also enables Near to spend more time in the field building relationships with Wendy's franchisees and directly driving operational improvement. The Restaurant Services Department will encompass Training, Quality Assurance and Operations Administration as well as other units to be created as a result of the Company's reorganization, currently underway. Each function will report to Choe. "Ed is a proven operator, who has been in the Wendy's family for nearly 25 years, and his stores have some of the highest average unit volumes in the system. "He is an impact player -- we're thrilled to have a person with his experience and leadership skills in this critical position as we continue to focus on strengthening operations, enhancing the customer experience, and driving sales and transactions in our restaurants," Near said. Choe joined the Wendy's family nearly 25 years ago, starting as a manager trainee with Wenco, a franchisee in the metropolitan New York/New Jersey area. He became chief operating officer, overseeing 45 stores, before he joined the Company as divisional vice president when the franchise was acquired in 1997. Choe simultaneously oversaw the conversion of more than 40 Roy Rogers restaurants into the Wendy's brand. In 2000, he was promoted to SVP for the northeast region. He has won numerous awards throughout his career, including "Top 50 Entrepreneur of Long Island," multiple "DMA of the Year" selections, and the prestigious Wendy's "Golden Eagle" award as the top regional operator.
