The lobby of Wendy's headquarters got a little rowdy on Friday, March 31 when the stars of the popular Discovery Channel television show, "American Chopper"visited Dublin to unveil a custom-built chopper motorcycle that will be auctioned to benefit the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. The reality show's cult-like, dedicated viewership includes more than just folks who ride motorcycles. Many fans tune in to watch the funny, family-style bickering between the stars of the show ? the Teutuls, including father Paul Sr., and sons Paul Jr. and Mikey. The Teutuls operate Orange County Choppers in Orange County, N.Y., where they custom build bikes for celebrities like Lance Armstrong, Jay Leno, the New York Yankees and NASA. The Wendy's bike is particularly notable because it's the first that Orange County Choppers has completely designed and fabricated in-house. During the lobby event, Paul Jr. drove the chopper up a red carpet and right into the building, revving the engine while the audience of Wendy's employees cheered: "Fire it up!" "It was really great building this bike because, like Wendy's, we don't cut any corners," Paul's brother Mikey told the crowd. The lobby event was filmed for the show, which will air over two episodes on June 5 and 12 at 10 p.m. on Discovery Channel. The Wendy's episodes feature the design and construction of this one-of-a-kind motorcycle, and also include a special visit to the OCC shop by several local foster children. During their visit to Wendy's, the Teutuls got a tour of the Research and Development wing at Wendy's, where they concocted a new sandwich for themselves ? the Homerun Double ? featuring six patties of meat! Look for that delicious development during the show. How did the Wendy's/"American Chopper" partnership come about? "We saw this as an opportunity to tie our theme of customizing a great sandwich into the idea of customizing a really great motorcycle," says Chief Marketing Officer Ian Rowden. "It all comes from having a good relationship with our media partners. But most importantly, it's a chance for us to raise some serious money for Dave's foundation." "We're hoping people are really generous when the bike is auctioned off later this year!" says Rita Soronen, director of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. This article has been read 786 times .
