Mary Ellen Sheets, founder and chief operating officer for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK /INTERNATIONAL, Inc. was featured on the Wayne State University public television show, Leaders on Leadership. Sheets was interviewed about the history of the franchised moving company and it's future. She fielded questions from both the host and Wayne State University business students. She took over her sons after school business to create the only franchised moving company in the country. No nearly 20 years in business, there are more than 150 franchises in 26 states, she said. The company started with her two sons Jon and Brig Sorber trying to make extra money in high school. When the pair left for college, Sheets kept the company going while working for the state of Michigan. Eventually, she gave up her pension and decided to throw 100 percent into her thriving company. Last year's revenue was nearly $150 million. Her children continue to work in the company. Daughter Melanie Bergeron, her daughter, is president and chief operating officer. Son Brig Sorber is vice president in charge of licensing and son Jon Sorber is a vice president and runs the Lansing and two Grand Rapids franchises. "We truly are the American dream come true,'' Sheets said. "We are all so blessed. Our goal has always been to exceed our customer's expectations and that's what we continue to focus on.'' Previous guests on the nationally syndicated show Leaders on Leadership include the head of Toyota and Detroit Businessman David Bing.
