Dinnerware Dished Out To Victims Of Abuse

Markham, On - 21 September, 2005 -

The Firkin Group of Pubs plated up a winning combination this past week in donating more than 15,000 dinner, side and salad plates as well as bowls to charitable organizations in the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding areas. Approximately 125 large boxes of dinnerware were distributed to 14 organizations including women's shelters and youth oriented agencies in Markham, Toronto and as far west as Cambridge. "The donation was a natural fit for the Firkin," says Larry Isaacs, Director of Marketing for The Firkin Group. "Since Firkin pubs are located in neighbourhoods throughout Ontario, we look forward to giving back to the communities we serve in various ways." Coordinated by the CCAA and Firkin, the distribution involved the participation of 20 volunteers and spanned over a period of two weeks. "The donation showcases the great need that exists for victims of abuse and the agencies that help support them," says Ellen Campbell, Founder and Executive Director, of the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness. "In fact, we invite other corporations to step up to the plate and help out just as the Firkin Group has." The dinnerware was donated to make room for the Firkin's revamped menu that will be served on new upgraded plating. Now available at a local Firkin Pub, the new menu items include mouthwatering coconut shrimp, scrumptious bacon wrapped scallops and juicy onion tangles amongst many others. The Firkin Pubs commitment to local communities reaches beyond its work with the CCAA. Each year the company hosts its Firkin Golf Classic which this year, alone raised $225,000. In fact, in the last eight years the Firkin Group has raised more than $1.2 million which has supported various medical research initiatives.
