On April 12th, Sonitrol of St. Petersburg's Operator received a verified audio activated alarm signal from a drug store in Safety Harbor, FL. When the operator heard loud crashing sounds, she dispatched the police as a "Verified Burglary in Progress". The police arrived on the scene within 6 minutes of the alarm. The suspect, a 45-year-old woman tried to break into the back door of the drug store. When she couldn't open the back door, she rammed her SUV into the front of the store. When the police arrived they blocked all exits to the building and sent a K-9 unit into the store. The dog found the suspect hiding in the store and bit her. She was taken to the hospital for treatment for dog bites to her legs, and then transported to the Pinellas County Jail, where she was charged with commercial burglary. The suspect had attempted to steal 4,000 pills, including Valium and Xanax, but her desperate attempt was foiled by Sonitrol.
