In co-operation with the Union Gospel Mission, Ricky's All Day Grill sponsored an outdoor community BBQ that fed more than 5,000 people, most of them in Oppenheimer Park, located in the Downtown East side of Vancouver. For the 5th consecutive year, Ricky's, its suppliers and the Union Gospel Mission and friends have provided all that's required for a picnic-in-the-park. "We're proud to be involved in such community-focused event", says president, Frank Di Benedetto, "and we could not do it without the generous support of our suppliers and friends in our business community". "Every year we do this event it means more to us", says Vice President, Brenda Williams, " we're in the business of serving hungry people every day; it's both a job and a way of life for us. But one day a year we serve hungry people and it's not about the business of serving people, it is just about giving back to a neighbourhood, it's just a great experience." The Union Gospel Mission provides dozens of volunteers, who come out and serve what seems like an endless stream of locals a great summer treat; hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and pop: For Free. It's a real community "EVENT"; there's live musical entertainment all day long, plus crafts and activities; like the popular ‘bouncy tent', for the kids. Ricky's would like to thank; Canada Bread, Centennial Foods, Commercial Foods, Coca-Cola Ltd., Kids Jump, Kraft Canada, Maple Leaf Foods, Neptune Foods, Salmon's Rentals and the many volunteers who make this event happen! Ricky's All Day Grill and the Union Gospel Mission hosts this annual picnic in Oppenheimer Park, and similar BBQ/picnics in communities like New Westminster and Mission every summer.
