Sponsored by PepsiCo, the Sorrells were recognized for their accomplishments at an award gala at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino on February 26, 2001. The couple purchased a $3,000 janitorial franchise from OpenWorks, a Phoenix-based commercial cleaning and maintenance frachisor, in November 1997. Within three years, the Sorrells have grown their business from a monthly income of less than $3,000 to more than $27,000. They have successfully managed growth and gone from servicing the properties themselves to supervising 19 employees, which gives them the freedom to spend more time at home and become more involved with their daughters' lives. Richard and Jackie have also completed the BusinessWorks training program for franchisees, which teaches advanced business strategies as well as enhances their knowledge of industryspecific issues. Exemplifying their entrepreneurial spirit, the Sorrells completed the 12-week course by presenting business plans that outlined tactics and strategies that will benefit their clients and their business. The Sorrells have aspirations, with a solid business plan to back it, to retire with more than one million dollars saved and invested.
