Ralph Alvarez, the newly named President and Chief Operating Officer of McDonald's Corporation, announced today that Janice (Jan) Fields, President, Central Division, McDonald's USA, has been named Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer, McDonald's USA, and that James (Jim) Johannesen, Senior Vice President and Chief Support Officer, McDonald's USA, has been named President, Central Division, McDonald's USA. On Wednesday, Don Thompson was elected to succeed Ralph Alvarez as President of McDonald's USA. Thompson previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer for McDonald's USA. In announcing these leadership promotions, Alvarez said, "Don Thompson and I are proud to announce the promotions of Jan Fields and Jim Johannesen. At McDonald's, we are fortunate to have great depth of restaurant experience and management talent. Jan and Jim are seasoned executives who exemplify the strong leadership qualities needed to continue our momentum. Along with our owner/operators, employees and suppliers, they along with the entire U.S. leadership team will continue to drive the U.S. business." Jan Fields, 51, is an executive with 28 years of McDonald's experience -- beginning her career with the company as a restaurant crew member. Since joining the company, Fields has worked in all facets of McDonald's restaurant business. In 1994, she was appointed Regional Vice President of the Pittsburgh Region. In her most recent role as President, Central Division, McDonald's USA, Fields was responsible for more than 4,000 McDonald's restaurants located in seven geographic regions in the central United States, covering 24 states. Jan and her husband Doug have two children and two grandchildren. Jim Johannesen, 52, joined McDonald's as a corporate attorney in 1979. His career has spanned a variety of disciplines including regional restaurant management. Most recently in his role as Senior Vice President & Chief Support Officer, McDonald's USA, Johannesen was responsible for Real Estate and Construction, Franchising, Franchise Relations, Ombudsman, Diversity Initiatives, and U.S. Communications functions. He has been in this position since 2002. In 1997, he entered the McDonald's Executive Training Program in preparation for his role as Regional Vice President in Phoenix. In 2001, he moved to Chicago to serve as the General Manager for the Chicago Region. Johannesen earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Western Illinois University and his Juris Doctorate degree from the Law School at the University of Illinois.
