Dennis Strobel recognized an entrepreneurial opportunity in the adage that one person's noise is another person's music. In 1998, he was looking for a retail concept with broad demand. He saw the growing popularity of pre-owned music and movie products, and founded CD Tradepost, Inc., a buyer and retailer of used CDs, DVD/VHS movies, and video games. Dennis now has 24 retail stores in five states. But the drive to continue innovating didn't stop with his first store. "You have to be ready, willing and able to adapt at all times," he advises. He has continued to do that by hiring good people and implementing quality systems, such as the proprietary software that manages pricing and inventory. Dennis sees continued opportunity for growth as the market changes. His advise to prospective entrepreneurs: "All small-business owners must have an over-the-top passion for the product or service they provide."
